NMR, Optical Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry Facilities
The College of Natural and Biological Sciences maintains two facilities that provide important infrastructure for research in the biological and chemical sciences. The Analytical Chemistry Instrumentation Facility (ACIF) provides state-of-the-art instrumentation in a wide variety of areas, including FTIR, high field NMR, laser Raman, UV/Visible spectroscopy, circular dichroism, electron paramagnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry for use by the academic community in their research. ACIF provides assistance in the form of highly skilled spectroscopists who advise, assist, and train faculty and graduate students in the use of the instrumentation. The Campus NMR facility is under the care of ACIF, and provides 300 and 500 MHz instrumentation for the study of chemical and biochemical systems with detection of a wide variety of nuclei. The ACIF staff provides formal and informal training for graduate students with the objective of achieving hands-on usage so that each student can become expert in the use of the instrumentation for basic research applications.
