Admission Requirements

The Graduate Admissions Committee considers a candidate's entire application file when making admissions decisions. We ask applicants for admission to our graduate program to submit the following information:


A completed application form
A statement of purpose
Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work
Graduate Record Examination General test scores
Three letters of reference


In addition, for non-US citizens whose native language is not English, we require the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); the minimum score required for the paper-based exam is 550.

The Admissions Committee reviews applications as soon as they are complete. Most graduate students begin their graduate program with the fall quarter; however, there are also openings for the winter and spring quarters. Applicants are encouraged to complete their application files as soon as possible to ensure full consideration for admission and for Departmental and University Fellowships.
